Certificate of Registration

Certificate of Registration Real Estate (NSW) Course - Entry Level Real Estate

Are you looking for a career in real estate?

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Please be advised that NSW Fair Trading (NSWFT) have announced changes to the registration and licencing qualification requirements for real estate agents in New South Wales.

As of March 2020, for individuals wishing to obtain their Certificate of Registration, NSWFT will stop accepting the current 4 units of competency, and require all new entrants to the industry to obtain the new 5 units of competency (see the section on "How long will it take?" for further information.)

You can still enrol in the current 4-unit registration course as long as you can commit to completing all assessments, and submitting all required paperwork to RETS no later than 1st of March 2020 (as you will need to apply for your registration with NSWFT BEFORE 23rd of March 2020). Students must be aware that if they do not complete the course and submit their application to NSWFT before the 23rd of March, they will not be able to obtain their registration until they have completed the new 5-unit registration course, and would therefore have to start over again. If this is the case additional costs would be incurred.

The Certificate of Registration is the entry level real estate course. It comprises four (4) units of competency which are recognised by NSW Fair Trading. Any person looking to sell or lease property in NSW (this includes giving advice or information on property) must have competently completed these units. When you have successfully completed these units and received your Statements of Attainment you can submit them to NSW Fair Trading, where they will then issue you with the Certificate of Registration (conditions apply – see www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au for more information).

NSW Fair Trading does not issue provisional Certificates, so if you want to work in the industry you must complete your Certificate before you commence work.

The Certificate of Registration course for the real estate sector comprises of four units of competency. The units are:

  • CPPDSM4080A - Work in the real estate industry
  • CPPDSM4007A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
  • CPPDSM4008A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work
  • CPPDSM3019 - Communicate with clients in the property industry
