Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

All students can apply for  RPL. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a form of assessment that acknowledges the full range of an individual's skills and knowledge, irrespective of how they have been acquired. These skills may map across to the competency units. If you feel you may be eligible for RPL contact the RETS office. We will send you an RPL Kit which you can complete and send back to the office. Your tutor will then assess your material against the competencies. If you are successful you will not need to complete those units and will be issued a Statement of Attainment.  There is no additional cost for RPL.

Are there any specific entry requirements?

You must have your Certificate of Registration prior to completing this course. RETS also strongly suggests that you have had some experience in real estate or are currently working in real estate, as some of the assessments are workplace based, or refer to a real estate workplace.

How can you complete the course?

RETS runs this course as follows:

Hard copy, Printed Material - RETS supplies you with all the materials and assessments in booklet form for you to undertake the course in your own time, with the support of a seven day tutor hotline.

How long will it take?

RETS gives you 12 months to complete this course, though you can complete it sooner. If you were to work on this course full-time you would complete it in an average of 6 weeks. If students go over the 12 month timeframe they may need to re-enrol and additional payment may be required. This will be assessed by the Director of Studies on a case by case basis.

How am I assessed?

You will have assessments to complete throughout the course. These are marked using competency based assessment – that is you are either competent or not competent. If you are completing your course by hard copy you will need to post your assessments in.

What if I need help?

Upon enrolment you will be designated a tutor who can help and assist you with any problems or questions you may have. Your tutor is available by phone or email - weekdays 9am to 6pm and weekends 11am – 3pm (access given to all students to the RETS tutor hotline) or e-mail tutor@rets.com.au.

How much does it cost?

  • $1260 - 9 units *
  • Price includes any RPL assessment
  • $195 for individual units

*price based upon student enroling in all  9 units. You may need to purchase an additional text book if completing the licence course (Real Estate Survival Guide, D.Malouf - $45). Speak to RETS to discuss if you need to purchase this text.
