Real Estate is more than Sales...
by RETS
Ever thought you might like a career in real estate but not sure you’d like, or be good at a sales role? Being a sales representative in an agency is just one of many options for a career in real estate.
If you are an organised person who likes scheduling tasks and getting out of the office to inspect properties, you might consider a career in property management. Good property managers are usually in short supply, and as an experienced senior property manager, there will often be opportunities to job share if you have family responsibilities.
You might also consider a job in agency administration and management. Strong organisational skills and the ability to monitor and deliver on many agency projects at once might lead you to consider applying for a role in agency administration. Agency office managers and their team run the operations of a real estate agency, from trust accounting, invoicing, co ordinating advertising and signage, staff schedules, disbursing information and ensuring office communication is effective.
If you have a marketing background, some larger agencies hire a marketing specialist, who will prepare advertising copy and co- ordinate the marketing programs for listed properties.
On the other hand, if the idea of a role in property sales excites you, but you lack experience, consider applying for a role as a sales assistant, where you are effectively working as a personal assistant to the sales representative/team. You might assist with organising photos of properties, creating market reports, setting up Open for Inspections, liaising with sellers, buyers, solicitors and other agents in the office.
