All applicants for a personal licence must satisfy the Commissioner for Fair Trading that he/she is:
- at least 18 years of age
- a fit and proper person to hold a licence. Any person in partnership with a licensee in a property agency must also be a fit and proper person
- has the qualifications required for the licence
- is not a disqualified person
- has paid the relevant contribution to the Property Services Compensation Fund.

Are there any specific entry requirements?
You must have your Certificate of Registration, and hold at least a NSW School Certificate (Yr 10) or equivalent. We also strongly suggest that anyone attempting the licence either currently work in the real estate industry or have had some previous experience in the industry. You must have access to a real estate office in order to complete your assessments.
If you have worked in real estate, or a real estate related business you may also be eligible to receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). To find out if you are eligible contact RETS Head-office on
Advanced standing (Credit Transfer) may be issued to students who can show relevant and valid academic transcripts from other RTOs.There is no cost for credit transfers.
How can you complete the course?
If you are apply for RPL RETS will organise an assessor to contact you to assist you in completing your RPL assessment. Any units you need to complete will be sent to you to complete via distance education. You will be designated a tutor, so if at any time you encounter difficulties you can access help and advise.
How long will it take?
Students completing the License units of competency will be given 12 months to complete this course. If a student goes over this timeframe they may need to re-enrol and additional payment may be required. This will be assessed by the Director of Studies on a case by case basis.
Cost?
$2995 - including the RPL asessment and any other units that may need to be completed. This payment can be made in total or RETS has a payment plan that may suit your needs:
- 1st payment of $1000 - this payment will get the RPL assessment and access to a tutor to assist you in compiling your RPL assessment
- 2nd payment of $1000 - this payment will get you any skills gap units to complete
- 3rd payment of $995 - this payment needs to be made prior to issuance of your certificate
How am I assessed?
You will have assessments to complete throughout the course. These are marked using competency based assessment – that is you are either competent or not competent. You will need to post your assessments in as each unit is completed. You will receive feedback on your assessments.
What if I need help?
Upon enrolment you will be designated a tutor who can help and assist you with any problems or questions you may have. Your tutor is available by phone, fax or email - weekdays 9am to 6pm and weekends 11am – 3pm or e-mail tutor@rets.com.au

Please note: If you are already enrolled in RETS 17 unit licence course we give you 12 months (from enrolment) to complete this, and the OFT will recognise this 17 unit course for 3 years.
